Mary is a Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) related Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) survivor. Diagnosed in 2006, Mary underwent a bone marrow/stem cell transplant on March 1st, 2007 and April 25th, 2018. Simultaneously and through sheer determination, she continued her advocacy and volunteer work for her community during her treatment.
Mary served as a Councilwoman for the City of Danbury for ten years from 2003 to 2013 and held the position of Legislative Leader. She has held board positions for Community Health Charities and the Housing Authority of the City of Danbury. Mary was also a Justice of the Peace and officiated numerous weddings.Mary has an Associates Degree from Dutchess Community College in Retail Business Management and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Connecticut State University in Justice and Law Administration.
Mary published a book entitled "Be Positive To A Plus" which takes you through her journey with MDS, leukemia, and bone marrow transplant.
Mary started taking comedy workshop classes with Christine O'Leary in 2019 and has enjoyed them ever since.
She also is:
-Danbury Elks Lodge No. 120 Citizen of the Year Award recipient in 2008.
-Founder and Organizer for the annual "Walk of Honor" in Danbury, Connecticut.
-Planning member of the "Veterans Walkway of Honor" at the Danbury War Memorial.
-Organizer of multiple bone marrow drives.
-"Honored Hero" for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2011.
-Michael Garil Courage Award recipient for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2012.
-Speaker on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for bone marrow donations and rare diseases.
-Danbury Day Honoree at the State Capitol in 2019.
